Ceasefire

A ceasefire is an agreement between warring parties to temporarily or permanently stop fighting. Ceasefires can be unilateral (declared by one side), bilateral, or mediated by third parties. They may be precursors to formal peace negotiations or purely operational pauses. A ceasefire differs from a peace agreement in that underlying political disputes typically remain unresolved.
