US military denies involvement after explosions heard in Iran

Multiple explosions were reported late Thursday in areas around Bushehr—home to one of Iran’s nuclear plants—and the nearby city of Choghadak, as well as three blasts in the southern city of Konarak, according to Iran’s semi-official Mehr News Agency. Ehsan Jahanian, Bushehr’s deputy governor for political and security affairs, told state IRNA that the blast in Bushehr was caused by air defence systems and that a military headquarters on the outskirts was struck by a projectile. The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) denied any US military strikes in Iran in the past hours, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Army Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, and Defence Minister Israel Katz separately stated that the war against Iran is ‘not over’ and that Israel is prepared for further attacks, including a ‘third time if necessary’. The explosions follow a series of tit-for-tat strikes since Tuesday, with Iran hitting military sites across the Gulf in Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait, and tensions over shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
