Israeli indicted for allegations of spying for foreign agent during Iran war

Ahmad Daas, a 27-year-old Israeli truck driver from Tira, was indicted Thursday on charges of spying for a hostile foreign agent operating from Iraq between March and April 2024, allegedly photographing sensitive military and civilian sites including Ashdod Port, Israel Aerospace Industries facilities, and a naval commando base while motivated by ideological opposition to Israel. The indictment, filed by state prosecutors in the Central District Court in Lod, alleges Daas communicated via encrypted messaging with an agent using aliases "Abu Bakr" and "Nasser Kadem," understood the sites would be targeted for strikes, and rejected payment, distinguishing this case from other recent Iran-linked recruitment efforts that involved financial incentives.
