Fano refers to informal Amhara militia groups in Ethiopia that have taken up arms against the federal government. Originally community defense groups, Fano forces became increasingly organized in opposition to the federal government's push to disarm regional forces. In 2023, a state of emergency was declared in the Amhara region following armed resistance by Fano fighters.
