UN: Iran war pushes global food prices to three-year high

The Food and Agriculture Organisation reported that global food prices reached their highest level since 2023 in April, with the FAO food price index rising 2 percent year-on-year, driven partly by Middle East conflict-related crude oil price increases and reduced Southeast Asian production. The agency warned that sustained fertiliser price increases could prompt farmers to shift from wheat to less fertiliser-intensive crops, potentially exacerbating global wheat supply constraints.
