On Monday morning it was a busy South Sudan hospital. By Tuesday night it was a bombed-out shell

NEWS SUMMARY
A South Sudan People's Defence Forces (SSPDF) airstrike on 3 February destroyed an 80-bed Médecins Sans Frontières hospital in Lankien, Jonglei state, followed by ground forces looting and burning the facility during their capture of the town; the hospital served approximately 250,000 people and was the region's only secondary healthcare centre. MSF permanently closed the facility in late April after assessing the damage, marking the fourth hospital closure in South Sudan since early 2025, as the UN reported 33 health facilities destroyed or looted in Jonglei, leaving 1.4 million people without healthcare access amid renewed fighting between the SSPDF and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement In Opposition.
