On Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu entered the Western Wall plaza in East Jerusalem accompanied by thousands of Israelis, including government officials and ministers, according to the Jerusalem Governorate of Palestine. The group passed through Wadi Street in the Old City. Israeli groups had called on supporters to gather near the Gate of Mercy, one of the entrances to the Al-Aqsa Mosque courtyard, for Selichot communal prayers ahead of Yom Kippur.
