France urges Israel to 'refrain' from taking control of areas in south Lebanon

France's foreign minister on Tuesday urged Israel to "refrain" from taking control of areas of southern Lebanon, warning such a move would have "major humanitarian consequences". Israel said earlier its military would take control of parts of the south to create a buffer zone up to the Litani River, around 30 kilometres (20 miles) from the border.
