Ein Hod: The ethnically cleansed Palestinian village that became an Israeli artists' colony

Ein Hod, a Palestinian village depopulated in July 1948 during the Nakba, was transformed in the early 1950s into an Israeli artists' colony after artist Marcel Janco identified its preserved stone houses as suitable for galleries, studios, and cultural venues. Palestinian descendants of the approximately 800–850 residents displaced from the village remain unable to return to their former homes, which now operate as museums and exhibition spaces, raising questions about Palestinian historical erasure and control of narrative in spaces presented as culturally liberal.
