What Happened

Al-Khair Foundation, a British charity, strongly denied allegations that it is linked to Hamas after UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI) submitted a complaint to the Charity Commission alleging links between the charity and Hamas. The Charity Commission and the Department for Education are investigating. In July, Mohammad Yousef Hasna, whom Al-Khair described as 'an employee of a partner charity delivering humanitarian aid in Gaza', was arrested in Britain on behalf of American prosecutors; US federal prosecutors accused Hasna of providing material support to Hamas, a proscribed terrorist organisation in the US and UK. They did not charge Al-Khair Foundation, and Al-Khair said Hasna is not an employee. Al-Khair said it submitted a serious incident report to the Charity Commission after learning of Hasna's detention and has appointed an independent consultant. The Department for Education is also seeking information from four schools run by Al-Khair, three in London and one in Oldbury.
